While flipping through a number of magazines, I remembered a professor telling me that it is very hard to take appetizing pictures of food. As I looked through the pictures, I thought that she was crazy! The fall treats and savory sides looked wonderful in the magazines. I actually wished they were in my kitchen at that very moment so that I could try them. Everything looked great, until I came across this...
This steak looked like nothing I would ever want to eat. It may have been the coloring, or the fact that the meat looked a little soggy; but I couldn't stop looking at it while my stomach turned. I must admit, the pictures colors do look a bit better on the computer than they do in print; but even the blackened corners make it look like not only the photographer, but the chef also didn't even know what they were doing.
Now, I like steak as much as any carnivore, but this picture really turned me off from steak for a while.
My question to you is, would you eat a steak that looked like this?
I saw this exact same food article in one of my magazines and questioned the appeal myself! I don't mind blackened corners because meat needs a good sear, but there is something unappealing about this image. I don't think there is enough contrast between the steak and the cutting board, so everything just looks sort of "blah."
ReplyDeleteOh no! The steak looks like it was cooked in the microwave and the "charred marks" were painted on.
ReplyDeleteThe picture looks BETTER on the computer? This is not even appetizing on the screen so I can only imagine what it looked like in your magazine. I would not be interested in eating it. From the color of the meat and its surroundings to the placement of each piece, there are a few things that could be changed to make this shot better. I especially agree with Stephanie about the cutting board.
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question, no. No, I would not eat that. It looks rubbery. Yuck!
ReplyDeleteI know it is hard to believe, but yes, the colors pop more on the computer screen. Thank you for your comments, I agree completely!
